Flight attendant
Flight attendants are a vital component to any airline. Flight attendants are responsible for affronting the face of the airline during travel; flight attendants answer concerns, make sure you’ve got all the peanuts and diluted mixed drinks you can handle while you’re in the sky, and they are pros at operating those faux “in the event of an emergency” seatbelt things.
Flight attendants live in both the epitome of what we fantasize they are (see: sexy flight attendant, stewardess and stockings, other revealing flight attendant costumes) and the actuality of what their life is (long days on the road without family, airline food for a regular diet, flight attendant as career “gosh, I never thought my life would come to this”)
So the interesting thing about flight attendants is that they aren’t even there to smile at you or wait on you at all. That is an expectation set by individual airlines and is something to remember the next time you get snippety with a flight attendant.
Most flight attendants are female. But in this day and age of equal opportunity everything for everyone, male flight attendants or stewards have burst on to the scene. If you’re looking for a flight attendant job, the best place to start is the internet on individual airlines websites. They often post their own jobs and probably always welcome a decent resume.
Flight attendant school is mandatory but is something you get admitted to, once hired. Don’t be fooled by these “trade schools” you still need to go through whatever training the airline needs to give you; even though you may have a trade school degree, that doesn’t really give you much of a leg up on anyone.
Flight attendants provide a valuable service that will always be necessary; safety with a human touch.
