Flight Nurse
Flight nurse jobs are highly trained registered nurses hat have experience in not only advanced life support but also critical care. Their combined skill of an ICU, emergency nurse, and critical care nurse is ideal for the varied situations that face them. They are faced with numerous dangers in a wild canvas of conditions. They are, in a sense, the Mighty Mouse of nurses; “here they come to save the day.” There are a variety of employers that use the skill of a flight nurse. Some flight nurses work on medical emergency teams that reach critically injured or ill patients in far-flung areas. Other flight nurses work with teams that land at disaster sites and fly the injured to hospital trauma centers. Flight nurses perform necessary, specialized intensive care while pilots transport their critically injured patients by plane or helicopter to an appropriate health care facility. Flight nurses need to be ready to treat patients while airlifting the them to a healthcare facility, so they need to be ready for anything. Flight nurse trauma stories are readily available as flight nurses training happens in real time. They can study all they want, work in an ER or hospital but nothing is quite the same as being flown into the middle of a disaster, having to pick up the barely breathing and try and save their life. The closest comparison I’d say would have to be working in an ambulance, just in a more direct way. |

Among the many flight nurse positions, some airlines have flight nurses fly with patients for specific medical needs. Many people with medical conditions could not travel without the medical care and treatment now available. The varied career of a flight nurse is exciting, often high-stress but extremely necessary and rewarding. The salary for a flight nurse varies on experience but needless to say, it is VERY rewarding. Private or community hospitals, airlines, medical emergency disaster teams, and private individuals all use flight nurses. Information on flight nurses is often available from individuals or hospices that use private nurses. If you need to get around, have medical conditions that require on demand care, or are independently wealthy, you should check out flight nurses. They’re the only way to fly. |
