Flight History
One topic of interest to humankind is that of flight history. Those who are now alive after the first aircraft was ever thought about or invented want to know how it was done.

The entire history of air flight and space flight timeline could not possibly fit into this one article. However, it is possible to include some of the highlights of flight history.

The history of space flight started with unmanned objects being sent to space. Then, in the year 1961 the first manned space shuttle made it around the earth for one orbit. This was accomplished by Soviet space crew.

After that first manned space flight, the Americans (United States) launched Apollo 7. This was the first American attempt to orbit around the earth and it lasted a little less than seven days. The Americans were also the first to orbit the moon. This happened during the Appollo 8 mission in 1968. Also, in 1969 the Americans were the first in space flight history to ever land on the moon, with the use of the Apollo 11 spacecraft.

One other aspect of space flight is that of the first on-time flight. Delta 318 was a launch object that was sent to space in the year, and it was the first ever of its kind to operate on schedule. This success took place in the year 2006, and it was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

The history of air flight started with ideas and dreams of flying that were dreamed up during prehistoric times. Then, in the 15th century Leonardo De Vinci drew plans of airplanes.

Then, in the year 1803 a man named George Cayley worked on perfecting the fixed-wing aircraft in order to fly it. However, his were of model size mostly, and did not create the first successful glider craft until the year 1856. A Frenchman then made the first powered aircraft which was pulled by a horse in the 1880s.

Other facts regarding the invention of aircraft and the act of flying are recorded in flight history. How a plane works became of great interest and fascination, and then came the most successful flight of all. This occurred in the early 1900s. This flight was made by Orville and Wilbur Wright, who were the first to sustain an aircraft for any length of time.

In the next two decades after this the history of airline travel began. For example, major airlines started up during the early 1900s; include Delta Airlines, which was the second largest.

In addition to new airlines being established, new space centers have been erected. According to records highlighting brief history of Goddard Space Center, the one by this name was first established in the year 1959 by NASA, and is still going strong today.
